日本中東学会第36回年次大会について(重要) / Cancellation of the JAMES 2020 Annual Meeting

日本中東学会の年次大会実行委員会と理事会では、新型コロナウィルスによる感染拡大に伴い、その対応策を検討して参りました。すでに大会に付随する懇親会の中止については、3月初めにご報告したところです。その後も、大会実行委員会と理事会において、年次大会における研究発表・総会・公開講演会の開催について、慎重な協議が続けられました。以下に、その結果をご報告いたします。

まず、5月17日に桜美林大学において開催が予定されていた「研究発表」は中止とし、代替手段によって実施することにいたします。代替実施の方法や日時の詳細については、決定し次第、できるだけ速やかにお知らせいたします。
「総会」については、予算・決算など夏前に確定すべき案件を抱えているため、オンライン上で開催することとします。時期や開催方法については、後日ご報告いたします。そして「公開講演会」については、現在、大会実行委員会の方で、秋以降に延期による別途開催を検討しています。

以上の詳細については、大会実行委員会の方から告知があります。ここまで鋭意準備を続けて来られた鷹木恵子先生、加藤朗先生をはじめ大会実行委員会の皆様のご尽力には、本当に何と感謝申し上げて良いかわかりません。

未確定部分が多くご不安の向きも多いでしょうが、できるだけ早急に詳細を確定できるようにする所存です。苦渋の決断でしたが、会員の健康を第一義とし、また発表予定者の研究業績を損なうことのないよう努めた結果です。少々のことには動じない本学会員の皆様とは承知しておりますが、どうかご理解のうえ、引き続きご協力を賜れれば幸いです。

Dear Colleagues,

The Executive Committee for Organizing the JAMES 2020 Annual Meeting and the Executive Board of JAMES have been discussing the countermeasures to be taken against the spread of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19). We already announced the cancelation of the reception party for this Annual Meeting at the beginning of March. Since then, the Executive Committee and the Board continued to intensively discuss the holding of the rest of the events for the Annual Meeting, such as the sessions for presenting papers, the General Meeting, and the Open Lectures to the public. The following is the result of the discussions.

Firstly, the sessions for presenting papers, which were to be held on the 17th May at J.F. Oberlin University, will be cancelled and replaced by alternative means. Details of the alternative methods and dates will be provided as soon as possible.

Secondly, concerning the General Meeting, it will be held online, since we have many important issues to be decided before summer, such as the annual financial statements and budget. Its date and particulars will be announced later.

Thirdly, regarding the Open Lectures to the public, currently the Executive Committee for Organizing JAMES 2020 is considering the possibility of holding them in autumn or after, separately from the Annual Meeting.

For more details on all the above information, an announcement from the Executive Committee will follow this statement. I personally do not know how to sufficiently thank Professors Keiko Takagi and Akira Kato, as well as other members of the Committee, for their efforts in formulating this important event.

Some of you might feel anxious about these unsettled elements. We, however, will do our utmost to determine the details as quickly as possible. This cancelation and shift were an anguished decision for us, nevertheless, we placed the greatest emphasis on the health and safety of JAMES members, as well as preserving the opportunity for those who planned to present papers.

We all know that our colleagues have unwavering spirits, even in difficult circumstances. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support.
